‘Static season’ is coming

Static electricity by definition is stationary. It is the result of the ‘Triboelectric effect’ – two materials rub together and produce an electric charge. These charges sit on surfaces and not necessarily in even amounts. As with any electrical potential, it will flow to a conductor. Moist air – high dew points – can conduct electricity better than dry air – low dew points – with temperature being equal. In the moist environment the electrical charges can find conductors at low potentials. Once dry air moves in and the air is an insulator, the potentials can reach harmful levels. Electronics, motors and people can be at risk. A few years ago, Sealeze made a static dissipative brush ‘wand’ for a building wrap manufacturer to conduct away absolutely deadly static potentials that would occur if their web broke.

Formed Cup Brushes Revolutionize Surface Preparation and Cleaning

Formed cup brushes, tools characterized by their circular, cup-like arrangement of filaments—which can be wire, nylon, or other materials—are increasingly becoming the essential choice across various industrial and maintenance sectors. Traditionally, wire cup brushes were known for their aggressive power cleaning; however, modern formed cup brushes are being tailored for both heavy-duty tasks and more specialized applications, offering improved safety and greater precision.

Why Do Escalators Have Those Brushes Along the Edge?

The late comedian Mitch Hedberg once joked that “an escalator can never break; it can only become stairs.” (“There would never be an ‘Escalator Out of Order’ sign,” he’d continue, “only an ‘Escalator Temporarily Stairs, Sorry for the Convenience’” one.) And in practice, that’s often the case — escalators break often (sorry, Mitch), and as a result, many of us have walked up or down a stationary flight of escalator stairs while the motor is off.
