What is a door brush?

A door brush, often referred to as a brush seal or door bottom sweep, is a type of weatherstripping or sealing mechanism primarily used on the bottom or sides of a door.

Key Characteristics and Functions:

  • Structure: It consists of a strip of dense, flexible bristles (the "brush") held in an aluminum or plastic carrier or housing that is attached to the door frame or the door itself.
  • Function (Sealing): Its main purpose is to seal the gap between the bottom of a door and the floor (or threshold) or between the door and the frame. The bristles conform to uneven surfaces without impeding the door's movement.

Benefits:

  • Pest Control: It helps to keep out insects, rodents, and other pests.
  • Draft Exclusion: It blocks drafts, preventing the exchange of hot or cold air, which helps with energy efficiency.
  • Dust and Debris: It reduces the amount of dust, light, and debris entering the space.
  • Soundproofing: It can offer a minimal level of sound dampening by sealing the air gap.

They are very common on exterior doors, garage doors, and industrial doors where effective sealing is needed while allowing the door to open and close easily.
